Should I add my family members name on my assets and avoid a will?

Transcript

We get asked if people need a will, or should they just add their family to their assets, thus gifting them assets. The short answer is, no, because when someone passes, you get a stepped-up basis. So, if they're adding you as a beneficiary to avoid a will, that's one thing, and may be acceptable given your circumstances. I would suggest you reach out to an attorney who's familiar in that area to get the best advice possible.
